Product information

AXP60 Copperzilla 3.0: copper cooling with headroom for the Bitaxe Gamma

The AXP60 Copperzilla 3.0 is the heatsink for everyone whose Gamma board leaves too little room above the temperature limit with its stock cooling. On the ASIC sit 210 g of solid copper, two heatpipes pull the heat out of the contact surface into the fin stack, and a 60 mm fan pushes it out.

Copper takes up heat faster than aluminium and buffers load peaks instead of passing them straight to the temperature readout. The board runs more evenly, and you have room to raise frequency and voltage.

Why the Copperzilla is more than a bigger heatsink

  • Mass instead of fan speed: 210 g of copper absorb heat before the fan has to spin up at all.
  • Two heatpipes: they pull the heat out of the small contact area and put the whole fin stack to use.
  • 60 mm instead of 40 mm: the larger fan moves the same volume of air at a lower speed.
  • Headroom for sustained load: if you mine around the clock, you work with distance from the temperature limit instead of right at it.

Compatibility: Bitaxe Gamma and Nerdaxe Gamma

The AXP60 Copperzilla fits both Gamma boards: the Bitaxe Gamma and the Nerdaxe Gamma. It is not intended for:

  • older Bitaxe models with a different layout and mounting pattern
  • the larger boards of the NerdQaxe and NerdOctaxe series

Fitting: swap, seat, plug in the fan

Take the old heatsink off, clean the contact surface, seat the Copperzilla, plug in the 60 mm fan. Nothing is soldered or drilled. Customer feedback does show that one spot is fiddly during alignment – take a few quiet minutes for it. How the miner starts up again afterwards is covered in the Bitaxe setup guide and the Nerdaxe Gamma setup guide.

Who the AXP60 Copperzilla is for

For everyone who does not run their Gamma at factory settings but adjusts frequency and voltage – and for anyone who wants permanent headroom in a warm room.

It is less of a fit if your miner should stay compact and discreet on a desk: the Copperzilla is considerably larger than the stock cooling. If that is too much, an adjusted fan curve is often enough on its own.

What you need to fit it

Delivered are the heatsink, the 60 mm fan and, depending on the set variant, the mounting hardware. Thermal paste is not listed as a separate item – have some ready if you are out. Beyond that you only need a spot with some airflow.

Accessories and sensible upgrades

  • Copper heatsinks for the voltage regulators – the Copperzilla cools the ASIC, not the rest of the board.
  • ICE Tower Low Profile kit if you would rather fit a complete set with bracket, paste and Y-splitter.

Ready for more cooling headroom on your Gamma?

If your Gamma board works at the temperature limit or you need room above it when overclocking, the AXP60 Copperzilla is the most direct answer: more copper, more surface, more airflow.

Frequently asked questions about the AXP60 Copperzilla Kupfer Kühler 3.0

Does the AXP60 Copperzilla fit the Bitaxe Gamma 601?
Yes. The Bitaxe Gamma is the main target for this heatsink – 601 is the board revision of the Gamma, so it is the same device.
Does the heatsink fit the Nerdaxe Gamma?
Yes. Alongside the Bitaxe Gamma, the Nerdaxe Gamma is the second board the AXP60 is designed for – without restrictions and without extra parts.
Which boards does the AXP60 not fit?
Older Bitaxe boards with a different layout, and the larger NerdQaxe and NerdOctaxe models. If you want copper cooling there, the factory-cooled NerdQaxe Copper Pro is the option.
Is a fan included or do I need my own?
A 60 mm fan is included, along with the heatsink and, depending on the set variant, the mounting hardware. So you do not have to buy a fan separately.
How much copper is in the heatsink?
210 g of solid copper, combined with two heatpipes. That is a multiple of the mass of a stock heatsink and the reason for the additional thermal headroom.
Will my miner get quieter with it?
Usually yes. More cooling surface and a 60 mm fan mean a lower speed is enough for the same load. We do not quote fixed dB figures, because location, fan curve and settings change the result significantly.
Do I need the Copperzilla if I do not overclock?
No. At factory settings a Gamma gets along fine with the stock cooling. The upgrade becomes useful when you overclock, run it in a warm room or want permanently more distance from the temperature limit.
Do I need tools or soldering skills for the swap?
No. The old heatsink comes off, the Copperzilla goes on and the fan gets plugged in – no soldering and no special tools required.
Does the miner stay as compact as before?
No. The Copperzilla is considerably larger than the stock cooling. If the miner has to fit into a tight niche or a closed case, check the space first.
What is the difference to the ICE Tower Low Profile kit?
The Copperzilla relies on copper mass with two heatpipes and fits the two Gamma boards. The ICE Tower Low Profile kit works with four heatpipes, comes as a complete set with bracket, thermal paste and Y-splitter, and fits Bitaxe as well as Nerdaxe boards.
What is the difference to the Bitaxe Copperzilla?
The AXP60 Copperzilla is only the heatsink. The Bitaxe Copperzilla is a complete miner that already comes with the large copper cooling fitted.
Does the Copperzilla cool the voltage regulators too?
No, it sits on the ASIC. For the other hotspots on the board there are the small copper heatsinks, which can be combined with the AXP60.
