Set up the Nerdaxe Gamma

With this guide the setup takes a few minutes. Connect your device to Wi-Fi, enter your wallet address and check the performance – simple, clear and with FAQs for beginners.

Step by step

This guide takes you through the setup from unpacking to a running hash rate. The instructions are simple, free of jargon and ideal for newcomers.

The device at a glance
The Nerdaxe Gamma is a compact solo miner for the home. You connect it to your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, enter the pool details and use your Bitcoin address as the stratum user. After that the dashboard shows you whether everything is running.

Performance & temperature
The device starts at around 1.2 TH/s. On some units the temperature rises a little at first – no problem, it is easy to adjust (see the monitoring and safety sections).

If you bought your Nerdaxe from us: thank you for your trust!

Have ready for the setup:

  • Nerdaxe Gamma
  • the credentials for your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi
  • your on-chain Bitcoin address (starts with bc1q, not a Lightning address)
  • the power supply (PSU, 5 V DC / 6 A / 30 W, round DC plug)

Preparation

for absolute beginners

In this section you get your Nerdaxe ready to start:
You unpack the device, check the supplied parts, choose a suitable spot and connect the power supply. No prior knowledge needed – we walk you through it step by step.

STEP 1

OPEN THE BOX CALMLY

Take all parts out and remove the protective films.

STEP 2

CHECK THE CONTENTS

You will find the Nerdaxe Gamma, the mount or case, the power supply (PSU) and an info flyer. If something is missing or damaged, do not switch the device on and contact support or the shop you bought it from.

STEP 3

LOOK THE DEVICE OVER

Check the board, heatsink, cables and fan. Nothing should be loose. The fan should spin freely without rubbing. Look at the round DC (barrel) connector and check that it is firm.

STEP 4

FIND A SUITABLE SPOT

Place the miner on a firm, level surface with some distance to walls. A socket and Wi-Fi should be nearby. Avoid moisture and heat sources.

STEP 5

USE THE RIGHT POWER SUPPLY

The Nerdaxe Gamma needs 5 V DC through the barrel plug. USB-C is not intended for power here.

STEP 6

PREPARE THE CABLE

Do not plug the PSU into the socket yet. Untangle the cable so that it is not under tension.

STEP 7

PLUG THE POWER CONNECTOR INTO THE DEVICE

Insert the round plug straight into Power In. Do not use force and do not kink the cable.

STEP 8

SWITCH THE MINER ON

Plug the PSU into the socket. Display and fan usually start after one or two seconds.

STEP 9

READ THE WI-FI NAME (SSID)

The display shows NERDAXE_XXXX. Note that name if you need to.

STEP 10

CONTINUE TO THE WI-FI SETUP

Continue with the section connect Wi-Fi below.

2.

Quick start in 3 steps

For the experienced: connect Wi-Fi, set the pool, check briefly – done.

1. Connect Wi-Fi: join NERDAXE_XXXX and set up your home Wi-Fi (see section 3).

2. Enter pool & wallet: open Pool Settings in the dashboard and enter host, port and your stratum user (your Bitcoin address). Click Save and then Restart.

3. Check in AxeOS: the dashboard shows hash rate, accepted shares and temperature.

The Nerdaxe Gamma only supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Do not choose a 5 GHz network.
3.

Connect Wi-Fi

In short: you connect the Nerdaxe to your Wi-Fi and, if needed, open the setup page in a browser.

Step 1: if you have already done the preparation, the Nerdaxe Gamma is already running.

If you are starting here, plug the power supply into the socket. After one or two seconds the display and fan come on. On your phone or laptop a new Wi-Fi network called NERDAXE_XXXX appears. Select it.

Step 2: the setup page usually opens automatically. Wait a moment and stay connected to NERDAXE_XXXX.

Step 3: if no page opens, start your browser and enter http://192.168.4.1.

Step 4: go to Settings and enter any hostname, your Wi-Fi SSID and your password exactly. If unsure, tap the eye icon to show and check the password.

Step 5: store the details with “Save”.

Step 6: click “Restart” so your Nerdaxe reboots.

Step 7: the miner joins your home Wi-Fi and already starts mining. The display shows an IP address (for example 192.168.20.234). Note it down – you will use it to open the AxeOS dashboard.

4.

Enter pool & wallet

In short: you open Pool Settings, enter host, port and your Bitcoin address as the stratum user, save and restart.

Step 1: open a browser and enter the IP address shown on the display (example: 192.168.20.234).

Step 2: switch to Pool Settings.

For beginners: fill in the fields exactly as shown here. General settings such as the mining pool and your Bitcoin address can be changed at any time later. Recommendation: leave public-pool.io active unless you run your own pool with a LiquidBox V5.

Step 3: enter the stratum host of your pool (for example public-pool.io).

Step 4: enter the port of your pool (for example 3333) or use the default port of the preset pool.

Step 5: enter your stratum user. That is your Bitcoin address (on-chain). Replace the default address completely with your own. Do not add spaces.

Warning: do not use a Lightning address. Only use Bitcoin addresses whose keys you control yourself (self-custody).

Step 6 (optional): append a .worker to your address, for example .miner1. That makes several devices easier to tell apart in the pool.

The worker label is just a name for the pool’s display (useful with several devices).

Step 7: in the password field enter whatever your pool requires. If no password is needed, use x.

Step 8: store your settings with “Save”.

Step 9: click “Restart”. The miner reboots and connects to the pool.

5.

Start & monitor mining

In short: here you see whether your Nerdaxe Gamma is working properly. The dashboard shows the hash rate, the counted accepted shares and the temperature. Take a moment to check. If something stands out, the notes below help.

Step 1: open the dashboard at the IP address if it is not open already (for example http://192.168.20.122).

Wait a moment. The hash rate often appears after one or two minutes. Small fluctuations are normal.

Step 2: check the shares. Accepted should be rising. Rejected should stay as close to zero as possible.

Step 3: check the temperature.

Warning: if the temperature stays at 70 °C or above, provide more air circulation or a cooler spot. You can also lower the frequency carefully in Settings.

Step 4: if no values appear, check host, port and BTC address on the pool tab. Improve the Wi-Fi signal if needed.

Step 5: once values appear, check the stability briefly: accepted should keep rising, rejected should stay close to 0 %. Keep an eye on the temperature and pick a cooler spot or more airflow if it runs high.

Step 6: your Nerdaxe Gamma is now running and mining – the setup is complete!

Quick help: no hash rate – check pool URL, port and BTC address, then restart the miner. Many rejects (> 3 %) – try another pool port, move the device closer to the router and check for interference (a microwave or repeater, for example).

Done – your Nerdaxe is running!

Your miner is ready to go. The sections below are optional and help with tuning or solving problems after the setup.

6.

Update the firmware

In short: update the firmware to keep your device stable and current.

Careful: do not disconnect power and do not close the browser during the update.

If something goes wrong

  1. The web flasher does not detect a device – use Chrome or Edge, check the USB data cable and try another port.
  2. The page is unreachable after the update – wait one or two minutes and open the IP again.
  3. The update aborts – check the file and version and try again (a clean flash if necessary).
7.

Solving problems & FAQ

In short: here you find quick solutions for the most common problems. Work through the points in order and check after each step whether your miner is running correctly again.

Method A – web flasher (recommended and easiest)
• Connect the Nerdaxe to power with the supplied PSU and to your computer via USB.

• Open Chrome or Edge and go to the web flasher: https://bitaxeorg.github.io/bitaxe-web-flasher/.

• Click Connect / Select device, pick your device and allow access in the browser.

• Choose your model and board version, then the firmware version (Latest Release is recommended).

• Decide whether to keep your settings: Keep configuration on = keep them, off = clean flash.

• Click Start Flashing and do not interrupt the process.

• When it is finished, click Disconnect, wait for the self-test and press the reset button briefly if prompted.

The web flasher works reliably in Chrome or Edge (desktop) with Web Serial. Safari and Firefox often do not support it.
Method B – online update (in the dashboard)
• Open the AxeOS dashboard at the IP address from the display.
• Switch to Settings and click Check to look for newer firmware.
• If a new version is offered, download the two linked files: esp-miner.bin (firmware) and www.bin (web interface).
• Update the web interface first (Update Website → +Browse → www.bin), then the firmware (Update Firmware → +Browse → esp-miner.bin). Wait about 60 seconds; the device reboots automatically.

The order matters: www.bin first, then esp-miner.bin.
How do I set up the Nerdaxe Gamma?
Connect the power supply, join the NERDAXE_XXXX Wi-Fi, enter your home network, then store pool and Bitcoin address in AxeOS and restart. The full sequence is described step by step above.
How do I connect the Nerdaxe Gamma to Wi-Fi?
Join the NERDAXE_XXXX network with your phone or laptop. The setup page usually opens automatically; if not, open http://192.168.4.1. Enter your 2.4 GHz SSID and password, save and restart.
Why does my display show no SSID?
Check that the power supply is seated firmly – display and fan normally start after one or two seconds. Unplug the PSU briefly and plug it back in. If nothing appears at all, contact support.
How do I find the IP address of my Nerdaxe on my network?
The display shows the IP address after it has joined your home Wi-Fi. Alternatively, check the list of connected devices in your router.
Where do I enter pool and stratum user?
In the AxeOS dashboard under Pool Settings: stratum host, port and your Bitcoin address as the stratum user, then Save and Restart.
How do I update the firmware on the Nerdaxe Gamma?
Either with the web flasher over USB (method A) or as an online update in the dashboard (method B). In the dashboard, always install www.bin first and esp-miner.bin second.
Why is no hash rate shown?
Check host, port and stratum user (BTC address) under Pool Settings, then Save and Restart. Give it one or two minutes – the hash rate does not appear instantly.
What do I do if my Nerdaxe overheats?
Check temperature and fan speed in the dashboard, provide more air circulation or a cooler spot, and lower the frequency carefully in Settings if needed.
What can I do if the Wi-Fi network “NERDAXE_XXXX” does not appear?
Check the power supply, move closer to the device (2–3 m) and scan again. Unplugging the PSU briefly and plugging it back in usually helps.
Why does the captive portal not open automatically?
Open your browser and enter http://192.168.4.1 in the address bar.
Why does the Nerdaxe Gamma not find my Wi-Fi?
It only supports 2.4 GHz. Enable 2.4 GHz on your router or create a separate 2.4 GHz network, and check that client isolation is switched off.
Why is my Wi-Fi password shown as wrong?
Use a 2.4 GHz network only, watch capitalisation and spaces, and use the “show password” function to avoid typos.
What can I do if the connection keeps dropping?
Check whether other devices have problems too, restart the router, place the miner where the Wi-Fi signal is strong and avoid chains of repeaters.
Why is my reject rate high (above 3 %)?
Try another port at your pool, move the device closer to the router, test fixed channels 1, 6 or 11 and avoid interference such as microwaves.
Why does the dashboard not load or time out?
Restart the router and open the IP again, disable ad blockers or tracking protection as a test, or use a Chromium browser such as Chrome or Edge.
Why is the display upside down?
The display board is only plugged on and can be fitted either way round. Unplug the device from power, take the display off carefully and plug it back on rotated by 180 degrees.
What is a hard reset and how do I do one?
A hard reset returns all local settings (Wi-Fi, pool details, stratum user) to factory defaults. The easiest way is a clean flash with the web flasher: connect the device, turn Keep configuration off and start the flash. Note down host, port and your BTC address beforehand, because they are erased.
8.
