Nerdaxe Gaia: 2.6 TH/s from a single BM1373

The Nerdaxe Gaia is the generation change in the Nerdaxe format. The board carries a single BM1373 ASIC with around 2.6 TH/s at roughly 25 W, so about 10 J/TH – around a third less energy per terahash than the BM1370 generation at roughly 15 J/TH. Everything around it stays familiar: ESP32-S3, AxeOS, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, USB-C and the 1.9-inch TFT showing the operating values. The Gaia is a pre-order; the first batch ships from 15 September.

Two things shape everyday use. A 40 mm PWM fan keeps the ASIC in check, and you define its curve in AxeOS. And power draw stays manageable: roughly 25 W add up to about 18 kWh a month – twice the hash rate of a Nerdaxe Gamma for barely more power.

That is exactly the point of solo mining: every hash is a ticket in the same draw the large farms take part in. If your Gaia finds the matching block, the full reward of currently 3.125 BTC plus transaction fees lands on your own address, undivided and with no provider in between. Why the Gaia is ahead of the previous generation

  • Twice the hash rate in the same format: around 2.6 instead of 1.3 TH/s, without a second chip, without a larger power setup and without a rack in the basement.
  • Roughly 10 J/TH: power draw only rises from about 15 to 25 W while compute doubles.
  • One chip instead of many: fewer components, fewer points of failure and a device that can run around the clock.
  • Just as open: AxeOS with your own pool, your own address and free choice of frequency and voltage. No account, no cloud service, no vendor lock-in.

Why a single ASIC is the better answer here

There are two ways to more hash rate: more chips or a better chip. The Gaia takes the second route. That keeps the device small and lets a single 40 mm fan do the job. The price of that design is the ceiling: around 2.6 TH/s is the end of the line, and anyone who wants more changes device class.

For home mining that is the better arithmetic: one device, one power supply, one socket and one number on the display.

Pre-order: what that means for you

The Gaia is a new generation and sold as a pre-order: the first batch ships from 15 September. You secure a unit from it but have to wait. If you want to start right away, the Nerdaxe Gamma is the alternative in the identical form factor: same display, same operation, half the hash rate.

Up and running in minutes

The new ASIC changes nothing about the procedure: a socket, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and a browser are enough. The steps in detail are in the Nerdaxe setup guide.

    Connect it

    Plug in the power supply and start the miner. On first boot the Gaia opens its own Wi-Fi network for configuration.

    Set up Wi-Fi

    Switch to that network, select your 2.4 GHz home network and enter the password. The miner then sits on your network and is reachable through the router.

    Store pool and address

    Open AxeOS in a browser, enter pool, worker and your Bitcoin address, save and restart. From that moment every hash counts.

Who the Nerdaxe Gaia is for

For everyone already running an open-source miner who wants more hash rate without changing device class. The Gaia stays a desktop device with one chip, one fan and one power supply. It also works as a second unit next to a Bitaxe, because firmware and operation are identical.

It is less of a fit in two cases. First, if you want to mine immediately – delivery starts on 15 September. Second, if you are after maximum hash rate: the NerdQaxe++ reaches around 4.8 TH/s but draws roughly 80 W, about three times as much.

What you need to run it

Power supply, mount and quick start guide are included; beyond that you only need a socket, your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and a Bitcoin address. No PC required, because AxeOS runs on the device.

For the location the same rules apply as for any air-cooled miner: stand it free, do not blow the exhaust against a wall, and keep an eye on the temperature during the first few days. 25 W of waste heat is little, but it still has to go somewhere.

Accessories and sensible upgrades

A Gaia on its own is a complete setup. It gets interesting when you make it quieter or put it behind your own infrastructure.

  • Cooling for quieter fans and more surface area if you want to raise the clock.

When does the Nerdaxe Gaia ship?

The Gaia is a pre-order item. The first batch ships from 15 September. If you want to mine right away, stay with the previous generation, the Nerdaxe Gamma.

What is the difference between the Nerdaxe Gaia and the Nerdaxe Gamma?

The chip. The Gaia runs the newer BM1373 with around 2.6 TH/s at roughly 25 W, while the Nerdaxe Gamma uses the BM1370 with around 1.3 TH/s at roughly 15 W. Format, 1.9-inch display and AxeOS are identical; the Gaia sits at a higher price.

How much electricity does the Nerdaxe Gaia use?

Roughly 25 W, so about 18 kWh a month in continuous operation. Check it with your own tariff in the mining calculator.

What does 10 J/TH mean?

Joules per terahash describes how much energy a miner needs for a given amount of compute – lower is better. At around 10 J/TH the Gaia needs about a third less electricity per terahash than a BM1370 device at roughly 15 J/TH.

Which ASIC is inside the Nerdaxe Gaia?

A single BM1373. It is the reason for the higher hash rate and better efficiency compared with the older Nerdaxe and Bitaxe models using the BM1370.

How loud is the Nerdaxe Gaia?

No measurement is available for this model, so we do not quote a dB figure. Cooling is handled by a 40 mm PWM fan whose curve you set in AxeOS. At 25 W there is a little more waste heat than on a 15 W device, so the fan spins up sooner.

What is the difference to the NerdQaxe++?

More hash rate, considerably more power. The NerdQaxe++ delivers around 4.8 TH/s at roughly 80 W. The Gaia is the frugal choice, the NerdQaxe++ the fast one. The full range is on buy a Bitcoin miner.

Is a power supply included?

Yes. The box contains the Nerdaxe Gaia, a matching power supply, a mount and a quick start guide. You only need to add a socket, Wi-Fi and your Bitcoin address.

Do I need technical knowledge?

No. Basic setup consists of joining Wi-Fi and entering a pool, and takes a few minutes. Knowledge only becomes relevant once you start changing frequency, voltage and fan curve.

Can I overclock the Nerdaxe Gaia?

Yes, AxeOS lets you adjust frequency and voltage. How far you can go stably depends on cooling, power supply and room temperature, and every step up costs efficiency.

Does the Nerdaxe Gaia work on 5 GHz Wi-Fi?

No, the ESP32-S3 only supports 2.4 GHz. On routers that broadcast both bands together, switch 5 GHz off briefly for the setup or create a separate 2.4 GHz network.

Can I solo mine with the Nerdaxe Gaia?

Yes. In AxeOS you point it at a solo pool or your own node. Twice the hash rate doubles your tickets, but it does not change the order of magnitude of the chance: solo mining stays a matter of luck, not a plannable return.
