Noctua NF-A6x15: a 60 mm fan for more air at low speed
The Noctua NF-A6x15 measures 60 × 60 × 15 mm, making it a 60 mm fan that still fits where things are tight. It runs at 5 V and is PWM controlled through a 4-pin cable – control stays with your miner and its fan curve.
Rated figures are 19.8 dB at 0.85 W. The fan is audible but even, and it changes nothing meaningful about running costs: at €0.28/kWh it is under 20 cents a month in continuous operation.
Why a 60 mm fan at all?
- More air per revolution: the larger area of a 60 mm fan achieves more throughput at low speed than a small 40 mm one. Quiet here comes from speed, not from doing without.
- Slim build: at 15 mm deep it fits builds where a thick 60 mm fan would collide.
- Familiar connection: 4-pin PWM at 5 V, so no external controller and no separate power supply.
- Honest classification: 19.8 dB is not silent. Customers mainly praise the calmer running noise – at maximum speed you hear this one too.
Where the NF-A6x15 belongs
Anywhere a 60 mm frame is provided. The NerdQaxe Copper Pro is designed for a 60 mm fan from the factory, and the NerdQaxe Performance Case takes two 60 mm fans at the rear for active back-panel cooling.
It does not fit boards with a 40 mm fan mount such as the Bitaxe Gamma or Nerdaxe Gamma – the NF-A4x20 belongs there. It also does not fill the 92 mm mount of a NerdQaxe++; there it only makes sense inside the Performance Case as additional rear cooling.
Who the NF-A6x15 is for
For setups with a 60 mm mount in continuous operation: if you actively ventilate the rear of your NerdQaxe or swap an existing 60 mm fan for a calmer one, you gain temperature headroom without raising the noise floor.
It is less suitable in two cases: on a board with a 40 mm fan mount it simply does not fit, and if you expect absolute silence, keep the 19.8 dB in mind – at full speed a fan remains a fan.
What you need to fit it
A free 60 mm fan mount, a 5 V connector with PWM and a screwdriver. If you want to run two fans in the Performance Case, work out beforehand how both get power. After fitting, check ASIC temperature and fan speed, just as when setting up the NerdQaxe.
