Sovereign Stack V2: full node with Umbrel and a Nerdaxe Gamma solo miner

Your own Bitcoin infrastructure starts with the question of whose copy of the blockchain counts for you. The Sovereign Stack V2 answers it with the LiquidBox V5 – Intel N150, 16 GB DDR5-4800, 2 TB NVMe SSD, Umbrel OS – and puts a Nerdaxe Gamma alongside it, computing around 1.3 TH/s at roughly 15 W with its BM1370 ASIC. The node verifies, the miner hashes.

The most visible difference to the V1 sits on the front of the miner: a 1.9-inch TFT (LILYGO T-Display S3) instead of a 0.91-inch OLED. Hash rate, shares and temperature can be read in passing without opening a browser. Power draw is unchanged: around 10 W for the node, around 15 W for the miner, so roughly 25 W together or 18 kWh a month – about €5 of electricity a month at €0.28/kWh.

Solo mining here means: your Nerdaxe submits the same candidates as an industrial farm, just less often. Every hash is a ticket, and if one lands, the full 3.125 BTC block reward plus fees end up on your own address – confirmed by your own node. The ticket costs about €3 of electricity a month, and in between the miner contributes hash rate to the network. None of it can be planned – how the lottery works is explained in our solo mining guide, and you can run the numbers in the mining calculator.

Why this set fits together well

  • Everything in view without logging in: the 1.9-inch TFT shows the live figures on the device. You need the browser for settings, not for the daily glance.
  • One node for everything: wallet connection, Umbrel apps and the miner all hang off the same LiquidBox V5 – no second infrastructure on the side.
  • No fiddling with power: 19V/65W for the node, 5V/6A for the miner – both power supplies and the cables are included.
  • Open firmware on both sides: Umbrel OS and AxeOS are operated in the browser.

V1 or V2: what makes the difference

Both sets contain the same node. Only the miner differs – and it differs in form factor and readout, not in performance: BM1370 ASIC, around 1.3 TH/s, roughly 15 W and about 15 J/TH apply to both.

  • Readout: a 1.9-inch TFT on the Nerdaxe Gamma, a 0.91-inch OLED on the Bitaxe Gamma in the Sovereign Stack V1.
  • Noise: the Bitaxe Gamma is quoted under 15 dB(A); for the Nerdaxe the fan is audible and adjustable through the fan curve.
  • The rest is identical: same ASIC, same AxeOS firmware, same PWM fan, same 5V/6A power supply, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.

Up and running in minutes

To start you need a network port, two sockets and a browser. The interfaces are reachable after a few minutes; the full verification of the blockchain keeps running in the background afterwards. The miner steps are in the Nerdaxe Gamma setup guide.

  1. 1

    Connect the LiquidBox

Plug in the power supply, put the network cable into the 2.5G port and switch the device on. The node appears on your home network and is reachable from any computer on it through a browser.

  2. 2

Set up Umbrel and start Bitcoin Core

Create an account, start Bitcoin Core, let the sync begin. Further apps – for wallet connection or your own solo pool – are installed afterwards with a few clicks.

  3. 3

    Configure the Nerdaxe

Attach the miner to the 5V/6A power supply, bring it onto 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and enter pool, worker and Bitcoin address in AxeOS. The TFT shows you whether shares are getting through.

Who the Sovereign Stack V2 is for

For people who want to see their setup: the miner sits visibly on a shelf showing its figures while the node works quietly beside it. For homelab users who bundle wallet, apps and mining in one place. And for everyone who prefers the Nerdaxe form factor with the larger display.

The set is less suitable if every decibel matters to you – then the Bitaxe Gamma in the Sovereign Stack V1 is the variant with a documented noise figure. And if you only want to verify rather than mine, the node alone is enough.

What you need to run it

The set contains node, miner, both power supplies, cables and a guide. Beyond that you need a free LAN port, two sockets, a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network for the miner and your own Bitcoin address.

The node is designed for continuous operation and is best placed where it stays connected permanently. The miner needs free air – inside a closed cabinet it gets louder than necessary.

Accessories and sensible upgrades

The node is the part that stays; the mining side can grow later.

Ready for your Sovereign Stack V2 setup?

The V2 is the right choice when you build node and hash rate in one go and want to watch your miner while doing it – no cloud contract, no third-party servers, open software throughout.

Frequently asked questions about the Sovereign Stack V2

What is included in the Sovereign Stack V2?
A LiquidBox V5 as a Bitcoin full node, a Nerdaxe Gamma as a solo miner, all cables and power supplies for both devices and an installation guide. You add a free LAN port, two sockets, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and your own Bitcoin address.
What is the difference between Sovereign Stack V2 and V1?
Only the miner. The V2 contains the Nerdaxe Gamma with a 1.9-inch TFT, the V1 the Bitaxe Gamma with a 0.91-inch OLED. Both run the BM1370 ASIC at around 1.3 TH/s and roughly 15 W, and the node is the same LiquidBox V5 in both sets.
How much electricity do node and miner use together?
Around 25 W – roughly 10 W for the node and about 15 W for the miner, so 18 kWh a month. At €0.28/kWh that is about €5 a month.
How loud is the Nerdaxe Gamma?
In practice the 40 mm fan is audible in a quiet room on the stock curve; a flatter curve in AxeOS or a quieter fan makes it unobtrusive.
How much hash rate does the miner in the set deliver?
Around 1.3 TH/s at roughly 15 W, so about 15 J/TH. That is a typical value rather than a promise of returns: room temperature, airflow and your AxeOS settings move it a few percent.
Why do I need my own node for mining at all?
You do not, strictly speaking – a public pool works without one. With your own node you build the block templates yourself and verify every block against the consensus rules, which is the difference between trusting and checking.
How long until the node is ready to use?
The interface is available within minutes; the full download and verification of the blockchain keeps running in the background afterwards. How long that takes depends mostly on your internet connection. The miner can already work on a public pool in the meantime.
Can I point the Nerdaxe at a regular mining pool?
Yes. In AxeOS you can enter any pool – a public one, a solo pool or the one on your own node. Switching later is a matter of one field and a restart.
Do I need Linux knowledge for Umbrel?
No. Umbrel OS is operated entirely in the browser: create an account, start Bitcoin Core, install apps. A command line is not required for normal operation.
Is 2 TB of storage enough for the blockchain?
Yes, with room to spare for the coming years plus app data. The 2 TB NVMe SSD holds the full blockchain and still leaves space for Lightning, BTCPay or monitoring apps.
Can I overclock the miner?
Yes, frequency and voltage are adjustable in AxeOS. More clock means more power draw, more heat and a louder fan – move in small steps and watch the temperature.
What is the difference to the LiquidBox V5 without a miner?
The node is identical. The Sovereign Stack V2 adds the Nerdaxe Gamma so that you not only verify but also hash. If you do not need the mining part, the LiquidBox V5 alone is the leaner solution.
