Avalon Nano 3S: the quiet ready-made miner from Canaan
Canaan has built large ASIC miners for more than ten years and brought devices for the home with the Avalon Nano series. The Avalon Nano 3S puts twelve Canaan chips made in 4 nm into a closed case and reaches 6 TH/s at 140 W. At 33 to 38 dB it stays unobtrusive in a living space; power comes from a 28 V supply over USB-C, Wi-Fi from a USB module.
Avalon Nano 3S or Bitaxe?
The difference lies less in the hashrate than in the concept. The Nano 3S is a ready-made device with firmware from Canaan. Bitaxe, Nerdaxe and NerdQaxe are open hardware with open firmware where you set clock, voltage and pool yourself. Per terahash the Nano 3S needs more power, about 23 J/TH against about 16 J/TH for a NerdQaxe++, but it is particularly quiet. Both can point at the same solo pool, for example our Bitaxe Pool.
